Standing at 165 and 191 metres high respectively, Stac Lee and Stac an Armin are the tallest sea stacks in Britain. It is a gannetry and is home to a large proportion of the world's population. The bothy of Stac Lee, first described during a visit to St Kilda in 1695 (Martin 1749 edn, 20), is perched high on its SSW face and accessible only through rock climbing. The young gannets (gugas) which nest here in their thousands were harvested by the St Kildans as their main source of food.
