I'm headed there for the first time today and my neighbor mentioned that the water there smells due to runoff water from the local area. From the east, take Highway 123 to Stevens Canyon Road (Note that this road is closed in the winter). But peaceful. The return leg of the loop is an easy meandering trail along the banks of Indian creek, with a number of lovely picnic spots along the way. Dog friendly. We also saw ducks and turtles which was pretty awesome.

Lots of variations of small trails splitting off and options. But a really nice trail, started my hike at 5 in the afternoon. Great little hike with a nice view of the falls.
