If I was in the market for a new machine, this ticks all of the boxes. It's always looked fantastic, too; the Corsair is built from rock-solid aluminium, with two bands of RGB LEDs down the front and a smart power button.

So, how is it?
The omission of RGB LED lighting is curious from a company otherwise so enamored with the stuff. It's expensive, though, at 2,833 exc VAT, and the One faces strong competition from plenty of conventional workstations. I had no problem finding a place for it on my workbench, and unlike MSI’s Trident 3, it doesn’t need a separate stand to stay upright. Corsair's machine serves up decent power considering its size. With that thermal headroom in mind, I cranked the GPU’s power limit up to 120% and it heated its way up to a scorching 61° C. (For those who aren’t aware, Nvidia specs the GTX 1080 for a maximum temperature of 94° C.) Unfortunately the MSI-built GeForce doesn’t allow me to raise the voltage any further, so I ended up voltage-limited at 1898 MHz.
Guess what, that is exactly what a well-known company has done, and it happens to be Corsair. The Dell Precision 5820 is taller, deeper and weighs 15kg, and the Armari Gravistar BR-850A 24c TR4 uses a BeQuiet enclosure that's 523mm tall and 514mm deep. The blue works well here and adds some interest to the otherwise black design. The more expensive Corsair One Pro i180, meanwhile, costs a mighty 3,983 exc VAT, and it's the more intriguing alternative option.

They might suit a teenager's bedroom perfectly, but they're not always the sort of thing you want on your desk. The super-compact design means that this isn't really a machine for the type of PC owner who likes to open the case, tinker and upgrade components. It's just 380mm tall and 172mm wide, and it only weighs 7.38kg. Surprisingly for Corsair, these LED strips are not RGB, as according to Corsair, that wouldn’t have provided the “desired aesthetic” for a cool, quiet system.
