However, a look at Cinebench reveals how far the Core i9-9900K is behind proper workstation chips.

That’s a pretty good array of hardware for any gaming PC, let alone something that focuses on compactness. This is basically a re-skinned version of PC-Doctor. Copyright © Dennis Publishing Limited 2020. Once that's done, the motherboard, memory and storage are accessible. You can use it to monitor temperatures and fan speeds, but it’s a bit cumbersome to use for that purpose alone. Sure, but that’s par-for-the-course for any really small case. That version, like the One Pro here, is only available from Corsair’s website. You can’t say that about most other pre-built SFF gaming machines. We’re happy to send it home TR Recommended. Creative Bloq is supported by its audience. The tough SPECviewperf benchmarks illustrate the Corsair's strengths and weaknesses.

I didn’t test it exhaustively because we do our testing on a clean copy of Windows, but there wasn’t a whole lot to test anyway.

If I was in the market for a new machine, this ticks all of the boxes. It's always looked fantastic, too; the Corsair is built from rock-solid aluminium, with two bands of RGB LEDs down the front and a smart power button.

The mini-ITX motherboard was installed on one side, with the PSU, with the graphics card on the other side of the machine.

So, how is it?

The omission of RGB LED lighting is curious from a company otherwise so enamored with the stuff. It's expensive, though, at 2,833 exc VAT, and the One faces strong competition from plenty of conventional workstations. I had no problem finding a place for it on my workbench, and unlike MSI’s Trident 3, it doesn’t need a separate stand to stay upright. Corsair's machine serves up decent power considering its size. With that thermal headroom in mind, I cranked the GPU’s power limit up to 120% and it heated its way up to a scorching 61° C. (For those who aren’t aware, Nvidia specs the GTX 1080 for a maximum temperature of 94° C.) Unfortunately the MSI-built GeForce doesn’t allow me to raise the voltage any further, so I ended up voltage-limited at 1898 MHz.

Guess what, that is exactly what a well-known company has done, and it happens to be Corsair. The Dell Precision 5820 is taller, deeper and weighs 15kg, and the Armari Gravistar BR-850A 24c TR4 uses a BeQuiet enclosure that's 523mm tall and 514mm deep. The blue works well here and adds some interest to the otherwise black design. The more expensive Corsair One Pro i180, meanwhile, costs a mighty 3,983 exc VAT, and it's the more intriguing alternative option.

If you aren’t familiar, PC-Doctor is a decent little app to help folks who aren’t as computer-savvy as the rest of us make sure everything is running smoothly. It pulls hot air, circulating around the radiators, out of the chassis while the intricate meshing pattern on either side provides an opportunity for more air to be pulled in to cool the radiators. Don’t worry: we’ll show you more of the liquid cooling setup later. However, I also know it won’t be as small or as cool-looking. The PC equivalent of the Mac Pro: powerful, relatively small, easy on the eye and monstrously pricey. When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission.

In particular, using the M.2 socket means removing the entire graphics card, because the slot resides on the back of the motherboard. Always good to receive the criticism of watchful readers. I think I’m actually okay with the price. Those figures are at least as good as what one might expect from a full-size desktop PC with similar specs, which is quite impressive given the One’s small footprint. And it's quiet into the bargain, too. It’s almost exactly the same size for basically the same functionality at less than $150. More broadly-available Ones start with a liquid-cooled Core i7-7700 and a GTX 1070 for $1800, while the e-tail-ready Pro features the same CPU and graphics card as our test unit paired with a 480GB SSD and a 2TB mechanical drive for $2200. England and Wales company registration number 2008885. It's a heady set of specs, and probably overkill unless you're working in 3D or video production (or want to rule at Fortnite in your lunch hour).

They might suit a teenager's bedroom perfectly, but they're not always the sort of thing you want on your desk. I think he means it’s not a hard bar to clear because Apple hasn’t updated the stupid thing since its release and it doesn’t allow crossfire (one gpu is dedicated to gpgpu). Though watercooled, the GPU retains a blower-style fan to keep the VRMs and memory cool, just like the standard Seahawk. I considered testing with the included OS to save myself the time of freshly installing Windows, but with a machine this fast it wasn’t even half an hour before I was installing games and running benchmarks. Dimensions: 200mm x 172.5mm x 380mm

The super-compact design means that this isn't really a machine for the type of PC owner who likes to open the case, tinker and upgrade components. It's just 380mm tall and 172mm wide, and it only weighs 7.38kg. Surprisingly for Corsair, these LED strips are not RGB, as according to Corsair, that wouldn’t have provided the “desired aesthetic” for a cool, quiet system. I reckon most gerbils can build a PC that will match this machine’s performance and be nearly as quiet for less money. Terms of use The times have changed. Operating system: Windows 10 Home 64-bit Pros.

In our performance benchmarks, the Corsair racked up an overall score of 299, with scores of 176, 296 and 342 in the image encoding, video encoding and multi-tasking tests, respectively. And boy is it a beast. Plus Apple if I recall correctly has admitted that the can had issues with the thermal constraints and that was part of the problem with more energy dense parts. I guess you’re right. True, but the Corsair One Pro decimates the Apple Trashcan. Impressively, the Corsair is essentially silent when handling numerous work applications.

Corsair, unfortunately, opts to run with its SATA-connected Force Series LE drives this time around, meaning that peak speed is limited to 560MB/s or so. Compact design with customizable lighting.
