Race, Precarity and Public Space
The two ALN groups Precarity and the Environment and Race and Space have combined to explore the possibility of working with marginalised groups in Cardiff Bay that are affected by sense of precariousness and lack of political and economic agency related to systemic racism, which has historical roots but is perpetuated in contemporary material culture and alienating forms and processes of law-making.
Race, Precarity and Public Space are looking to team up with a network of marginalised young adults in Butetown (Tiger Bay) in Cardiff. Those living in this area are not only affected by a sense of precariousness and lack of political and economic agency related to systemic racism and which has historical roots to its role as a port for enslaved and colonial industries, but which is perpetuated in contemporary material culture and alienating forms and processes of ‘law-making’. The combined project will look to support the young adults in taking agency to do their own research in their own area and history for dissemination and reflection with ALN.
