A Royal Dis-Sent – Re-Writing and Re-Imagining a Series of Repetitive Beats CJA 1994

Sunday November 3rd

2-5pm

House of Annetta, 25 Princelet Street, London, E1 6QH

On 3 November 2024, it will be 30 years since the notorious Criminal Justice and Public Order Act (CJA) 1994 was given Royal Assent, illegalising raves, banning music that “includes sounds wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats” (section 63 (1)(B)).

We invite you to ‘re-write’ and ‘re-imagine’ this section of the act through an interactive workshop, involving discussion and making around sound, law, visual art – and see what can be done with this infamous clampdown on electronic music, nomadic and alternative ways of life, in the UK.

See you there or be spiral!

This workshop is organised by Instrumenting(s) collective and LORE (Legal Education Rights Education & Art), investigating the relations between sound, property, and law, and how we may best understand the history of land within legalities and their resistances.  The workshop is part of a week-long series of events called Perpetual Stew – see www.houseofannetta.org for more information.
